This article carefully expounds the Great Commission in Matthew, phrase by phrase. The Great Commission is often cited by dominionists and others to prove some version of a social gospel. Since Matthew 28:16-20 contain the final words of Matthew; I show how each phrase in this commission must be understood in light of the themes previously revealed in the entire Gospel. I hope to give our readers a clear example of how authorial intent determines meaning.
